Performance Assessment

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

I don’t know if it’s luck or I’m just really so blessed. We just conducted a performance assessment, it’s quite similar with brainstorming of ideas with your boss the only difference is that the topic that you are brainstorming about is how well or how poor you have done for the past year.

Some might not find this scenario amusing but for me it’s a chance to shine. You’ll be given a form to write 4 great things that you  have achieved in the past year and your grade for each one. We also have 8 virtues that any member of our organization should possess and you should enumerate ways of how you’ve actually lived those virtues.

The meeting with the boss is like winning a case because recognition and salary is at stake not to mention a possible termination if you don’t meet the standards. You see our company is adapting the principles of Jack Welch on how he runned GE during his time. The principle is like this: all employees are being categorized as A, B or C players. If you are an A player you’ll receive recognition and salary increase beyond imagination. You’ll also be on the list to consider for promotion. If you are a B player you have a little salary increase but will be motivated to be an A player. If you are a C player you might be asked to look for another job….

And guess where I fall? I was just recognized as an A player, the only A player in Manila…. It feels good to be recognized. This is really the place to be!
